Creating a family is momentous and full of choices. Considering adoption as an option to grow your family can be overwhelming. Sorting out where to begin is just the tip of the iceberg.
Is adoption right for us?
Where do we find an agency?
Can we work with the same agency for our home study and placement?
What adoption program feels like the best fit for our family?
Are we open to a child with medical needs or an older child?
Beyond all of these questions, the paperwork and what to do to prepare, is the real task - PARENTING.
Whether adoption is something you have thought about for many years, or it is an alternative path you are considering, it is important to learn all you can before setting foot on the the path. Adoption, while full of hope and promise is also a challenge, and is not right for everyone. Taking the time to review all of your options and establish your priorities should help you to be comfortable with the path you have chosen. The needs and expectations which help you to make a decision today may change over time - and that is ok. Re-evaluation is always an option.
However, the life long journey requires resources, and supports and has many questions. My hope is to bring my knowledge and experience to the table and help families through the journey of : deciding whether or not adoption is the option for them, sorting through the adoption process, and adoption parenting. For years before I starting working in adoption I knew that I wanted to help create families and even though much of my experience and knowledge is in adoption, I am not biased towards this path to creating a family and wholeheartedly believe each families path is unique.
Through this site I will share some resources as well as contact information for questions or to request a consultation.
